We also check the US Endangered Species Act, the UK Wildlife and Countryside Act and Habitats Regulations, and the EU Birds and Habitats Directives. In Canada we add the Migratory Birds Convention Act and the lists of BC, Newfoundland and Labrador, the Northwest Territories, Saskatchewan and Yukon.

▸ What an edition means

Lists change, so every answer names the edition we checked. The last 3 rows are assessments, not laws, and not a statement about your site. IUCN categories are global, from Red List 2026-1 under IUCN terms of use. A COSEWIC status is not a listing under the Species at Risk Act.

▸ What it will not do

Publishing on GBIF for you: we hand you the archive and its eml.xml; registering it takes a publishing organisation endorsed by a GBIF node.
People's names and contacts: we say which columns carry them and where each would go; you decide.
From a drop without an account we remove names and contacts and blur protected species' locations to about 10 km. We never republish what we keep.
